Semester Break

Me is now having 2 weeks of semester break. I seems to be short, but it is actually long and 1 week has just pass. I did nothing but mostly playing sports just to kill time.
  1. Monday, badminton
  2. Tuesday, Jogging
  3. Wednesday, Taekwondo
  4. Thursday, Badminton
  5. Friday, Gym in Wen Ping's apartment
Monday
Played badminton with college friends and fell down a few times. This is because I got trick by their hand movements. Smash like got power but actually no power. =.=

Tuesday
Went jogging round my housing area. Can really die cos the air pollution in my area is getting worse. Never want to jog around there anymore. Will go in to PFS field. Less pollution and quieter.

Wednesday
Its been a while I have not been for Taekwondo trianing. Can see lots of new member and many "suprising" changes in the school. Met the new instructor that took over my place when i abandon them =D. A very friendly guy and loves challenging people. And the best part is the members are getting lazier. Only know how to complain and complain. Wanted to slap the committee's mouth'S.

Thursday
As you can see from the above activities, badminton has the majority. Due to improper footwear i earn this :

2 big spot of blister

Somehow, my leg is very thick skin, so I don't really feel the pain.

Friday
Yesterday before going to the gym, I played Nitendo Wii. Wooo... nice when playing the plane game. Super cool. Wen Ping is my flight instructor for that moment as he taught me how to control the movements and speed of the plane. Very nice game but sadly its only a single player, so cannot go shoot friends down. Hahahah. I don't know why but I just get the fun when holding the nunchuck and maneuver the plane.

So after played a while, marcus lim take over the control. Let him fly the plane and he manage to control the plane quite well even tough his plane went through lots of "scratches". Cannot blame because lack of exposure.

There is 1 thing that I did everyday, I actually fly the F-15 simulator more frequently.

F-15

More activities coming up. Waiting for the PCB course to come.

Fear, Worry, Stress....

For the past two weeks, Inti College is having their semester final examination. I'm not sure about other students from other program but Diploma engineering sure has a hell week especially the engineering paper.

Pre Exam Week
Made a lot of preparation. Say want to study but end up sleeping or doing nonsense. Despite 3 days before the most fearful paper, I still got time to watch Slumdog Millionaire and enjoyed the Jai Ho song and dance.

A very nice song and movie. Quite impressed with the story line.

I cramped the whole 3 month's of knowledge in 2 days. Did not manage to cover much but I manage to improve my analytical skill when dealing with circuits. I know nuts for most of the things especially maths and C++.

Exam Week
Like normal guy, just enter the exam hall and write nonsense, Crap nonsense, Draw nonsense, Calculate nonsense. C++ is the worst paper I had sat in the world.

After Exam Week
We PC fair to see any latest technology available and brand new laptop. Quite disappointing, this PC fair, they sell less things. Even the HP pavilions are not as nice as last years design. And the things sold there are quite expensive, Its like no discount at all. So disappointing....

Room cleaning

For a month i have not been cleaning my room. I was sleeping with dust for the past. I actually won't clean it but was forced by my parents to do so. But the bright side is, I get to admire my own hand work for a while.

Slowly take out one by one and look at them. It gives me a nice feeling.

Meet my handwork :

A-10 Thunderbolt.

A giant plane. Could carry the amount of load more than an ordinary plane. In fact, its like a high speed bomber. Note, A-10 which means Attacker. Its Gatling is a real danger. Could fire a few thousand rounds of 50. Cal of bullets in a minute. But only ONE minute cos more than that, the gun is stuck... Too hot =.=

next

F-14 Tomcat

A very good fighter in 1990 till today. Famous for its air superiority (F = Fighter). Act as a bodyguard or escort to any planes or ships. Russians once feared this plane as the pilots flying these planes aren't ordinary pilots. Sadly the plane is so fat that it has poor maneuverability. That's why only good pilots can fly this plane.

See, the wings can be expended O_o

Next...

EA-6B Prowler

A very important plane in warfare. Each US aircraft carrier surely has at least a squadron in their hangar or deck. Its function is not to go for war but to jam or hack into other aircraft telecommunication. By doing so, any enemy aircraft may not get to radio back their base for backup. It is also highly capable of conducting electronic intelligence collection.

Next. Not only planes i have but...

AH-64 Longbow Apache

One of the best, well equipped, high tech and deadly helicopter. Its an attack helicopter(AH) own by the US Marine Corps. Its not only small but its also quiet. Has a capability of camouflaging by flying below enemy radar. Very good against infantry and amour ed vehicles. This copter has infrared which allows the pilot to see better during the night.

Notice the 50. Cal machine gun below the cockpit. It is controlled by the co-pilot that sits at the back. If the pilot wants to aim and fire it, all he needs to do is just look at the target he wants and the gun will just follow wherever he looks and press the fire button. Suppose to have a little brother called the Comanche but the project was abolished.

CV-66 USS America

Front View

Yeap, Aircraft Carrier. A Nimitz class aircraft carrier. I remembered it took me 3 days to finish up constructing this. I have no comments on this ship.

Plan View

Auxiliary View

Whoever learns engineering drawing or planning to take up architect, you may want try to draw the ship with the give details above. =D

Still have many more but haven't fix them yet. My cupboard out of space. Need cash to get a new display casing.

I still got USS Missouri and Hawk Eye to fix.

Life in college, recently....

Firstly I would say that I got my new Handphone at the right time and it serves me at the right moment. It has good camera and it allows me to capture nice moments.

Assignment 2 was up. We are suppose to design a relaxation oscillator but it is seriously not relaxing to design one. Thankful to our lecturer, he gave us a hint to kick start our assignment or else really hard. NOTE : its just a hint, so still got a lot of work to do.

Tested our circuit with various components, various values of resistor values, various capacitors combined to make a desired capacitance value.

Combination of many 100nF just to make a 0.01uF capacitor

Trial and error on the breadboard

Think till everybody got sesat and start burning things.

Introducing stressful Joel Lim

Crazy Marcus Lim who smiles in his sleep

All thanks to Hui Mei or else we will be more stress and growing crazier. Method of releasing stress : Went out dinner on Earth Day. Eat seafood in Relau there. Shock a few people there also. =D

Ate 5 plates of rice. The other 2 are Marcus and Wen Ping

Main competitor, Alan Looi. This guy is crazy, he does not only eat a lot, he eats fast. I got scard sitting next to him seeing him finishing 1 plate of rice after another. SCARY. He ate six plates or rice just to satisfy himself and proving to me he can eat more compared to me. =.=

This is his. Solid his, no additional plates frm others like mine.

Oh, BTW Mr Teh was having a tight budget for the month of March. He has to eat white rice for a few times. Even for this meal, he still eat white rice. Well, there is a girl who pitty him decided to "spice " his meal up. And she really did it.

His rice was spice up with green chilli.

Mr Teh accept the challenge to eat it all

But he gave up.

OK back to business. Back to assignment 2. I would say I sleep quite well enough compared to assignment 1 where i overnight in college to soldered my circuit. This time i do it at home myself. Got all my own instruments construct and troubleshoot at home myself.

My solder iron and solder stand

After planning my circuit, arrange my circuit, soldered my circuit, cut the unwanted wires, look for any errors in my circuit. Tadaaaa.... it looks like this.

My relaxation oscillator

and my Soldering

Went for circuit assessing and got 24/25. YAY so happy. BTW, my circuit is a tank. Drop twice and it can still be used. =D

Story does not end here, still got long report on this circuit, spend 1 whole sleepless night finishing it, and again my hp camera had serve me well, it took all the pictures of my results and this time I dun have to wait for pictures anymore.

Phew... finally all assignments are over. Left the main hurdle, the final exam. After jumping through this hurdle, than end of sem 4.

The Biggest Curry Pap I ever seen

This picture is based on actual scale 1:1. No half size or double size.

Inside the Karipap:

Applying the basic

An inspirational story from my lecturer. A short message that make me love engineering deeper. Especially the assignment and lab. Want to preserve this message as semester will end and will never get to read this message in future.

"Many students are facing difficulty in applying theories into
practical work.

My experience is rather different from many lecturers. I started
working as a technician when I was 20 years old. My "laboratory" was
at the production floor. I trained myself to apply theories by working
backwards. When I see a practical result or symptom, I'll ask myself
why that happen? I'll start searching for the answer through reading
articles which were relevant. Many called this the "top-down
approach". Years after years of self-training, I eventually picked up
the skill. I believe I'm not a high-IQ person but I definitely have
passion for electronics - I see them as toys.

I believe many students are learning the basics from books - but
engineering is not just about learning from books. Reference books are
very ideal, I called them the "wallpaper" - they simply look nice on
the monitor screen, you don't really get the same when you are dealing
with the real stuff. Reading a lot will surely enhance your knowledge,
but you need the WISDOM to apply the correct knowledge at the correct
place. Sometimes you might even need to trial and error to gain the
wisdom. Too bad there are no short-cuts to this.

Do projects, troubleshoot projects that do not work, read magazines
related to electronics, visit forums in the web that discuss on these
topics, join the discussion - make all these your hobby. Don't treat
them as your duty or as a task for examination, if you do then you'll
never excel from what you are pursuing. "

Kind regards,
TW Chan.

BEST lecturer i ever seen. 2 thumbs up!!! but he will kill you in final examination =(
